Pennywise is an American punk rock band from Hermosa Beach, California and founded in 1988 by Jim Lindberg, Fletcher Dragge, Byron McMackin, Jason Thirsk. The group's name was taken from the monster of the novel by Stephen King, It.
Since the 1991 self-titled debut, Pennywise had released an album every two years on Epitaph Records, a label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. To date, the band has released nine studio albums, one live album, two EPs and a DVD. His most recent studio album, Reason to Believe, 2008, was released for free through an agreement with MySpace and Textango, a mobile music distributor. The album will be in stores through MySpace Records in the United States and Epitaph in Europe. Pennywise
formation has remained constant from 1996 to 2009, and consisted of Jim Lindberg (vocals), Fletcher Dragge (guitar), Randy Bradbury (bass) and Byron McMackin (drums). The band kept its original lineup until 1996, when their bassist Jason Thirsk committed suicide. In August 2009, Jim Lindberg left the band announced that after 21 years as a vocalist. In February 2010, the band confirmed as the new vocalist Zoltán Tegla Pennywise.
